I have watched just about every FantomWorks show to date and have enjoyed them all. It is a sincere pleasure to watch real professionals at work. I used to dabble in automotive work for my family and friends but not since the computer has taken over most of the workings of the modern car. My first car was a 1955 Chevy convertible that I bought for $25 dollars off a buddy while I was in training for the National Cash Register Company up at Hartford, CT back in 1962. To say it needed work was being kind. No muffler, no convertible back window, no operating driver door window, not enough vacuum to operate the wipers, jury rigged floor shifter, no radio, the top did not operate, up or down, dead battery. I was able to rent a bay at a parts store just outside Hartford and completely rebuilt the engine and found out the hard way, how important it was to keep note of what piston, rod, piston pin every part had to go back into the same cylinder or what I would find out you could push the car to 40 MPH and pop the clutch and both rear wheels would be locked up completely.
well box up the engine and all the parts and ship to machine shop to have them matched. I thought I had disassembled the entire engine but I found that I had not done so completely. The throw out bearing was left in the center of the flywheel and it made downshifting a pain in the butt.
When finished replacing all the window felt, and chasing down all the squeaks and noise in the car it was a quiet running 1955 265 Cubic Inch, probably close to a 283 after the new pistons, rings and the cylinder boaring, it ran like a dream. You have a wonderful team in the shop and in the office. I also like the way Dan will go out of his way for the young service people who come to his shop. Almost all of them appreciate the extra Dan and his people do for them minus the Volkswagen owner who would not have been pleased if God himself had worked on his car for nothing. Keep up the wonderful work on your shows. I really enjoy the diagnostic part of the shows and love the fact that everyone’s car is always in great shape until it is soda blasted. I am presently driving a 2015 Lexus ES 350.
