For Fan Car Friday this week we bring you a beautiful Galaxie 500 LTD from our northern friend Greg. Fan Car Friday is a segment where we want to share with the world the automobiles that our fans have. We have absolutely no affiliation/relationship with the cars, the build or the owners. “Its the original color,Caspian blue.I purchased the car in 2006.It was a running (but tired driver).Always wanted one.My dad had a new 65 Galaxie,I remember being 5 years old and running out to the garage to see it.Started working on it while I was driving it in the summer, joined The Fabulous 50s Ford Club of Manitoba and brought it out to the local shows quite regularly.Replaced the tired 352 with a healthy 390 from a 63 T-Bird in 08.In May/2010 our local paper The Winnipeg Free Press which does a classic car of the week took some pics and it was put in the paper.Local older car guy(Bob ****) was reading the paper and realized I had his car that he purchased new in Aug/65.He had traded it off in 68.He contacted me and I took the car over for him to see and take for a ride.He had not seen the car in 42 years. He was quite happy and we are friends now and he gave me the original bill of sale which he still had(car guy)lol. He still enjoys taking it for a drive on occasion. In the winter of 2011 I began the tear down and it went out for body/paint.Got it back in Dec/14 and put it back together over the winter.Always tinkering with it to keep it running and looking good.Thank you.Greg ***** Winnipeg.
PS I am retireing next summer and relocating to a different province,I would probably sell the car ,it would be one less thing to move.Would like $25000 CDN,$19500 American.”
The Ford Galaxie is a full-sized car that was built in the United States of America by Ford for model years 1959 through to 1974. The name was used for the top models in Ford’s full-size range from 1958 until 1961, in a marketing attempt to appeal to the excitement surrounding the Space Race. For 1962, all full-size Fords wore the Galaxie badge, with “500” and “500/XL” denoting the higher series. The Galaxie 500/LTD was introduced for 1965 followed by the Galaxie 500 7-Litre for 1966. The Galaxie 500 prefix was dropped from the LTD in 1966, and from the XL in 1967; however the basic series structuring levels were maintained. The “regular” Galaxie 500 continued below the LTD as Ford’s mid-level full-size model from 1965 until its demise at the end of the 1974 model year.
The Galaxie was the competitor to the high-volume full sized Chevrolet Impala.
The 1965 Galaxie was an all-new design, featuring vertically stacked dual headlights. The cars were taller and bulkier than the previous year’s. The new top-of-the-line designation was the Galaxie 500 LTD. Engine choices were the same as 1964, except for an all-new 240 cu in (3.9 L) six-cylinder engine replacing the 1950s-era 223 “Mileage-Maker” six and the 352 was now equipped with dual exhausts and a four-barrel carburetor.
Suspension on the 1965 models was redesigned. Replacing the former leaf-spring rear suspension was a new three-link system, with coil springs. Interiors featured a new instrument panel and two-way key system were introduced. The introduction of two keys was for valet parking, in that the rounded head key would only open the trunk or locked glove compartment, while the squared head key would only unlock the doors and the ignition.

I had the exact same car in college but it sure the hell didn’t look like this one exclamation
In 71, I bought a near twin…a 66 Mercury Park Lane 4-door hard top. It had ALL of the power options available.
It was a real nightmare to work on. I hope your 65 LTD is not as beastly. Although sharp. I replaced it with an ugly
67 Olds 98 with similar options. Altogether easier to maintain.
l had the same car bougth it form for 1025.00 it was red white top 390 big block i love that car
