For Fan Car Friday this week we bring you Brian and beautiful little 1960 Ford Falcon. Fan Car Friday is a segment where we want to share with the world the automobiles that our fans have. We have absolutely no affiliation/relationship with the cars, the build or the owners. This post was made with written consent from the owner.
“In October 2013 after my father had passed away and decided to buy another old car, And since my dad really loved old Fords and that’s all we had growing up and my 1st car I ever owned was a 1964 Ford Falcon I got after my grandfather passed away I decided to go with the Ford Falcon to kind of honor both of them.
After getting online and doing a lot of research I came across this 1960 from my guy in Knoxville. The 289 and C4 tranny were already in the car, Had the electric fan put in with the aluminum radiator and the interior looked as it does now except it had carpet when I bought it.
The rear was the factory rear from the original 6 cylinder which I pulled out and replaced with a Dana rear a friend of mine gave me. And did the display conversion upfront and went to the 5 lug 15×7 Torque Thrust wheels.
The driver’s side floor was rotted out but I drove it like that and when I finally pulled the carpet it was glued to the floor and the driver side had a piece of aluminum over the rotted section of floor with only rtv sealant holding it down.
I cut that section out and replaced it and put them the insulation on the floor. But money is kind of tight so I just had not been able to order the new carpet yet.
I like the looks of the 1960 the round body style it has so much personality and soul.
I see a lot of old Mustangs at car shows, even Galaxies and Fairlanes, I wanted something a little different don’t see a lot of Falcons out there
It’s a small car that’s light weight, so what, that small block V8 it pulls plenty of power for my needs and everybody that sees me at the store gas station or going down the road once to stop and talk about the car.”
The Ford Falcon was a front-engine, rear-drive six passenger compact produced by Ford from 1960 to 1970, across three generations. A sales success for Ford initially, outselling contemporary rivals from Chrysler and General Motors, the Falcon was offered in two-door and four-door sedan, two-door and four-door station wagon, two-door hardtop, convertible, sedan delivery and Ranchero pickup body configurations. For several years, the Falcon name was also used on passenger versions of the Ford Econoline van.
The Falcon’s television marketing featured the first animated appearances of the characters from Charles Schulz’s acclaimed comic strip, Peanuts, with announcer contribution from Paul Frees.
Variations of the Ford Falcon were manufactured in Argentina, Australia, Canada, Chile and Mexico. Early Mexican built versions of the Ford Maverick used the Falcon Maverick name.
In 1966, Ford launched the third generation Falcon, based on a shortened Fairlane platform with revised styling. At the top of the line was the highly-trimmed Futura Sports Coupe, which featured chrome side window frames, giving this two-door sedan the look of a hardtop. It also featured a premium all-vinyl interior. Large “Sports Coupe” script on the “C” pillar was borrowed from the 1964–1965 Fairlane Sports Coupe. The heater-defroster became standard. Brakes were 9-in for six-cylinder Falcons, and 10-in for V8s. The two-door hardtop and convertible were dropped, while the station wagon and Ranchero were moved to a larger platform shared with the contemporary Fairlane. The Ranchero left the Falcon line and adopted the Fairlane’s front sheet metal for 1967. The 1966 Falcon was used in the Trans-Am series. The 1967 models were mostly the same as the 1966s, but more Federally-mandated safety equipment was added, including a dual-circuit brake system, energy-absorbing steering wheel with a large, padded center hub, 4-way flashers, soft interior panels, and mountings for front shoulder belts (which were available as an option). A reminder light was added for the seatbelts; 1968 was the first year for the square tail lights.

That will be one very nice Falcon once it’s finished. Great car. I remember being on holiday driving up from San Diego to Los Angeles and the car in front had a sticker on the rear bumper saying “I’m just Falcon around” I only realised what it meant when I saw the car in my rear view mirror was a Ford Falcon.
Great article, many memories of my Falcon 62 two door inline 170 cu. in. 3 on the tree. My first car , paid 300.00 dollars in 70. Awesome paint on it, like a refrigerator, thick. Thanks
The Falcon was the counterpart to the Chevy II The Falcon looks in great shape with a few added features the old one did have. Treasure this car!!
