As promised in last weeks Fan Car, Joe provides us with this week’s car as well. Joe’s 64 Chevy Impala, with the original 327, was another one that came to him unexpectedly and has found a forever home.  This sweet little Impala has spent its entire life within a 25 mile radius of the original selling dealer, that is still in business today, until Joe ended up with it.  Being a dutiful car guy, Joe has been in contact with all three of the Impala’s original owners and still contacts the original owners daughter.  Joe has kept his 64 very original, expect for the addition of a 200 4R transmission that was added for the overdrive, vintage air and some other minor changes to make it a very comfortable cruiser.

The Chevrolet Impala was introduced in 1958 as an anniversary model for GM celebrating their 50th year of production.  The Impala would be the top of the line model for the Bel Air hardtops and convertibles.  In 1959 the Impala was redesigned and became it’s own model being produced until 1985, and then was resurrected in 1992 as a high performance version of the Caprice.

1964 was the last year for what is considered the third generation of Impalas.  Chevy decided to restyle the Impalas for that year with a softer more rounder look.  The signature taillight assembly had an “upside-down U” shaped aluminum trim strip above the taillights, but the individual lights were surrounded by a body-colored panel. The 409 cu in (6.7 L) V8 engine returned as the big-block option, as well as the Rochester 2X4-barrel carburetors setup for the 425 bhp (431 PS; 317 kW) at 6,000 rpm and 425 lb⋅ft (576 N⋅m) at 4,200 rpm of torque engines. SS models continued to feature the engine-turned aluminum trim.

Ok, we know that the above and below pictures are not Impalas, but Joe just had to share his newest “rescue”.  A 19,000 mile original 1 owner 1973 Chevy Nova custom.  Joe purchased this one from the original owners son, who still remembers going with his dad to pick it up from the dealer.
