Today’s Fan Car Friday is brought to us by Joe and his 1965 El Camino. Fan Car Friday is a segment where we want to share with the world the automobiles that our fans have. We have absolutely no affiliation/relationship with the cars, the build or the owners. This post was made with written consent from the owner.

Joe’s Elky is a two owner California car that has had the exterior and interior already done when he got this beautiful example of looks and utility, not that we would every use it to haul anything.  After some much needed mechanical work and the installation of a 350 with a 200 4R, this lil Chevy rolls along wonderfully.

The birth of the El Camino was paved in 1955 as the Chevrolet Cameo Carrier which was a pickup truck that offered an array of car-like features.  As far back as 1932 people had wanted “”a vehicle to go to church in on a Sunday and which can carry our pigs to market on Mondays”.  In 1957 Ford introduced the Ranchero, which opened the market for an automobile based coupe utility vehicle.  Two years later Chevrolet introduced the El Camino, based upon the Brookwood two-door station wagon, with just no roof over the cargo bed.

This 65 is known as a second generation and is based upon the Chevelle’s two door wagon.  This generation, however did not initially offer the Chevelle’s more powerful performance engine options as it was considered a utility vehicle. In 1965 the El Camino received the same face-lift as that year’s Chevelle adding in the more pronounced v-shaped front end and getting a higher performance L79 version of the 327 as an option.

Joe also provided us with some photos of another one of his vehicles but you will need to “tune” in next week to find out more about that lovely Impala in a couple of his photos.  So until then we leave you with a parting shot of Joe’s Laid Back Garage, also known by his friends as the “No Kill Car Shelter”.
